Join The Lab

We are always looking for dynamic new scientists, mathematicians, and engineers to join our lab! Interested prospective postdoctoral, graduate, or undergraduate researchers should contact us to inquire about opportunities in addition to those listed below.

About the lab

The Hein Lab is based at Cornell’s main campus in Ithaca, New York. We are currently located in the 102 suite of Weill Hall. We will be moving to Atkinson Hall, Cornell’s newest Leed Gold building, when it is completed January 2025.

Prospective graduate students

At Cornell, graduate study is not based within individual departments but is instead organized through Graduate Fields: groups of faculty and students with similar interests that span departments across campus. The Hein Lab currently accepts graduate students through four graduate fields: Computational Biology, Neurobiology and Behavior, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Computational and Applied Mathematics. See the graduate field pages for deadlines and other application-related information. I encourage to explore the requirements and other faculty and grad student interests in each of these fields to identify which might be the best fit.

Open Positions

  • As part of an NSF-funded, multi-institutional Understanding the Rules of Life project, we will be recruiting a postdoctoral scholar to work on the interface between animal behavior, ecosystem dynamics, and environmental change in coral reef ecosystems.
